Profile

Carew was formed in 1993, to provide professional skills to the people making decisions in commercial and institutional property projects. Our role is to provide effective Project Management support to our Client, in making the initial evaluation of needs, progressing decisions and negotiations, and then managing the work of the specialist consultants and contractors through to completion of the project.
Through previous experience, Carew has built up a proven methodical approach to complex, multi-task property projects. The essential elements of this methodology are

  • Breaking a project into finite discrete stages, with an agreed content, sequence and timeframe to each stage.
  • Progressing logically through each stage, and agreeing it is complete and signed off by both client and project captain before proceeding to the next stage.
  • Having an agreed procedure for reviewing previous decisions and documenting changes when circumstances, priorities or goals change during the project.

The existence of such procedures renders the project transparent to all participants, so communication can focus on key information and decisions. We are expert in the discipline of putting these procedures in place, so the project can proceed at optimum speed without the costly risk of uncontrolled errors, omissions or repetitions.

Value

Our negotiating skills, knowledge and market contacts combine to deliver best value from your expenditure. Our internal structure and support network allow us to deploy our personnel and support resources to fit client demands, without the need to cover large fixed overheads or financial obligations.

Timesaving

We co-ordinate all the inputs required to ensure the project runs smoothly and is completed for use in the best possible timeframe, while you concentrate on running your business.

Certainty

Our experience and methodical approach allow us to anticipate what’s needed and avoid unnecessary problems, so you don’t have unexpected costs or delays. Unavoidable issues are dealt with openly and resolved in consultation with you as soon as they arise, to minimise impact on the project, or on your business later.

Capability

We are set up specifically to undertake such roles in property projects. Our depth of experience and breadth of expertise has been gained through long hands-on experience in the New Zealand property environment. We are totally familiar with all the negotiation, technical, regulatory and management procedures such projects entail.

Performance

We are noted for our integrity and responsibility, attention to detail, sense of urgency, ability to establish and maintain high performance standards by all participants in our projects, determination in overcoming difficulties, ownership of issues and creative participation in problem-solving. Our previous clients' opinions will be the best gauge of our performance, and you are welcome to contact any of them for an unbiased opinion. We would appreciate hearing any feedback you receive, positive or negative, as it helps us continually improve our services.

Skills

Our experience and training provide the secure professional basis to our work. But it’s our underlying skills as good listeners, supportive managers, cheerful and optimistic team players, and resolute decision-makers that mark us out, and constitute our point of difference.

Positive Culture

We believe very strongly in an open, transparent approach in all our dealings, limited only by the need to preserve confidential business information, trade secrets or intellectual property. We are consultative, and seek collective decision-making on key issues. We are solution rather than problem focussed. When problems arise we seek to apportion responsibilities that achieve a harmonious result, rather than a faultfinding, win-lose outcome. This has gained us tremendously loyal support in our industry. We are driven by the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, and demand the same of other participants in all our projects. We seek innovation, and willingly embrace new concepts and methods that appear well founded and appropriate. We strive to make our projects positive, rewarding and enjoyable experiences for all participants.

Information

We maintain very extensive links with Consultants, Contractors and Suppliers throughout New Zealand. We have established our own database for determining project costs and rates appropriate to many of the likely inputs for your projects. We are members of the Auckland Chamber Of Commerce, with full access to their huge database, professional and trade contacts, and business network.
We are currently undertaking membership of the New Zealand chapter of the Project Management Institute, primarily to maintain our knowledge of international standards, training and regulatory requirements.

Cost Control

Early discussion of your situation and goals will allow us to fit our own services to your needs and provide you with a fee proposal that is flexible, to allow us to get started. Settling on the appropriate division of responsibilities as early as possible is the key to fixing an agreed fee and scope of services for the duration of the project. We are rigorous in insisting on documentation and prior agreement of all project inputs that may incur costs for you. Our experience allows us to anticipate likely costs before they arise, and measure claims against industry standards. We have strong capability in analysing property project costs, and the discipline to monitor such costs without detriment to agreed timeframes.

Research

From our discussions with clients we have found that many were uncertain as to whether they should pursue property projects in the current environment. We have developed research tools to help them decide not just what they can do but whether they should do it.

Residential Care

Since early 2004 we began to offer strategic consultancy to residential care facilities. We recognise that the residential care industry is currently going through a great deal of change. We also realised that many operators would be forced to change their model of operation or be forced from the market place.
Our consultancy is based upon sound research into the industry and knowledge gained from our past experience, particularly feasibility studies looking into the viability of residential care developments in the competitive market place.
